The 2024 Jeep Wrangler continues its legacy as an off-road all-star while boasting a modern design and the latest technology. Pricing starts at $31,895.

The Jeep Wrangler is a legend for good reasons. It's one of the most capable off-road SUVs money can buy, and it has a distinct aesthetic that makes it instantly recognizable. Plus, Jeep, owned by Stellantis (STLA), makes a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version featuring up to 22 miles of all-electric range. An update for 2024 brings a refreshed look inside and out, new tech features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and even greater capability. However, it retains what we love about the Wrangler with 2-door and 4-door body styles, removable roof options, and an outstanding track record for resale value. Its closest competitor is the equally adventurous Ford (F) Bronco.

2024 Jeep Wrangler 2 Door pricing

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler lineup starts at $31,895. At every level, increasing the door count adds $4,000 to the sticker price. The Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid is offered with four doors exclusively, and starts at $49,995. Despite offering more variations than its main rival, the Ford Bronco, their pricing is similar.

What's new?

The iconic Jeep Wrangler gets several updates for 2024. For starters, an aesthetic refresh brings a redesigned grille, new wheel options, and a stealth antenna integrated into the windshield. A thoroughly updated interior has more soft-touch materials and updated technology like a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple (AAPL) CarPlay.

Beginning in 2024, Jeep is the first automotive brand offering built-in off-road adventure guides within its infotainment system. The Trails Offroad guide makes planning off-road adventures easier, providing information like location, difficulty, and so forth. Jeep includes 200 trails in the system. However, owners can add 3,000 trails for $39.99 a year.

A new Willys model adds capability at a reasonable price point with bigger tires, more ground clearance, and a rear locker. The new peak of Wrangler capability is the Rubicon X model, which adds steel bumpers, 35-inch tires, and an integrated trail camera. The regular Rubicon trim has some new off-road goodies too, namely a Dana 44 HD full-float solid rear axle.

A new 4xe Sport S model is the new entry level for the plug-in hybrid powertrain, bringing down the starting price for the plug-in hybrid.

Driving the 2024 Jeep Wrangler 2 Door

On a Jeep media drive in southern Utah, we took advantage of the opportunity to drive the 2024 Wrangler with each of its four powertrains. There isn't a bum one in the bunch. Each delivers a unique experience with varying degrees of fuel economy and power. The workhorse of the group is the 285-horsepower V6. It's a favorite of Wrangler purists because it comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission. For those looking for a bit more civility, an 8-speed automatic transmission comes with the turbo 4-cylinder, the plug-in hybrid, and the romping Hemi V8. You can even swap out the manual transmission mated to the V6 with the 8-speed automatic.

The Wrangler is traditionally not as comfortable or road-friendly as more car-like SUVs, including its Jeep Grand Cherokee sibling, especially in off-road-oriented trims like the 2-door Rubicon and Willys models. But improvements like extra sound deadening, acoustic glass, and a stealth antenna integrated into the windshield help with aerodynamics, road noise, and overall comfort. However, we were amazed by some highway time in a 2-door Willys that was surprisingly forgiving on pavement. With its hardtop in place, the Rubicon 392 was positively civilized, cruising over state roads hugging the Arizona border.

If you think your off-road experience will be diminished by the Wrangler 4xe and its dual-motor PHEV powertrain, you would be happily mistaken. Although always exhilarated, we are never surprised by the Wrangler's off-road capability. Having now piloted the Rubicon 4xe over some very technically challenging terrain in southern Utah, we can attest the Wrangler doesn't lose a step in its PHEV guise. Surefooted and determined, the 4xe performs with the same tenacity and confidence as any Wrangler.

Modern interior

The interior of the Wrangler gets a significant makeover for 2024. It's a big step forward in modern design and technology. A new low-profile center panel features Jeep's excellent Uconnect 5 infotainment system with a backlit 12.3-inch touchscreen that's much easier to view during top-down driving. Standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included, as well. You can also get 12-way power-adjustable front seats, which have been tested for water fording. Yep, the electric seats are fully operational when submerged, which may well happen with the Wrangler's 34 inches of water-fording capability.

On the upper trims, the Wrangler has acoustic front glass, thicker carpeting, and added sound deadening that promises a quieter ride.

As for interior space, the Wrangler is pretty roomy for its size thanks to its boxy shape. Rear-seat room is a bit compromised in the 2-door model, and it's not hard to see why the more practical 4-door Wrangler is the more popular body style. Also note that 2-door models only seat four people, while the 4-door Wrangler is more family-friendly and can accommodate five.

Overall, Jeep did an excellent job modernizing the interior of the Wrangler without losing any of its personality.

Rugged exterior

The Wrangler's exterior styling has always been more evolutionary than anything else. This is again the case for the 2024 Wrangler. Two notable exterior improvements are the freshened 7-slot grille, providing wider slots for improved airflow, and the integration of the antennae into the windshield frame.

It still has the classic Wrangler characteristics of a boxy, military-inspired design with round headlights and an upright grille. There is no mistaking the 2024 as anything but a Wrangler.

The Wrangler continues to offer two body styles, 2-door or 4-door. Both have removable doors, available half doors, and multiple options for removable tops, including a new Sky One-Touch powertop that acts like a power convertible top.

With eight trims, 10 paint options, and 10 wheel designs, the Wrangler is a highly customizable SUV that you can truly make your own.

Our favorite features and tech

Standard 4WDEvery Wrangler comes standard with 4-wheel drive, giving it the capability to back up its rugged aesthetic. Four capable 4WD systems are available so you can choose one appropriate for your needs.

12.3-inch touchscreenThe standard Uconnect 5 infotainment includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen and modern tech features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Trails Offroad appThe available Trails Offroad app is a nice companion for off-road driving, showing you where the trails are and interesting details about them. It will come with data for around 200 trails, or over 3,000 with a paid subscription.

Rubicon modelsThe Rubicon name represents the peak of off-road capability in the Wrangler lineup. The Rubicon trim now comes with a unique Dana 44 HD full-float solid rear axle, and a new Rubicon X model takes it up a notch with beadlock-capable wheels with 35-inch tires, steel bumpers, and an integrated off-road camera.

Sky One-Touch powertopRemoving and re-installing a hard top on an SUV can be a pain. The new Sky One-Touch powertop option on the Wrangler acts like a power convertible top that saves time, effort, and garage space.

eTorque mild-hybrid systemThe V6 engine in the Wrangler is available with the eTorque mild-hybrid system. This improves fuel economy and low-end torque while giving the Wrangler better starting power and rock-crawling capabilities.
